Introduction

Life seems to knock many down when we least expected. However, in Christianity, the unexpected is called; fallen condition. Everyone has problems in one way or another, some big and some small. But these problems are relative, what one calls a big problem another may see as something manageable. And this is how we realize that everyone at some point has battles to fight. Therefore, we must be able to understand that this is part of life and the fallen condition.

Part 1

So how did such a demise come to possess us? In the beginning, after God created the human, the human lived in peace and harmony with their creator, who provided them with everything. Also, the first human being was a much bigger intelligent creature than we think. Genesis 1: 31 “And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good” and since God is a perfect God, everything he created was perfect.

Commentary

So there’s no room for the idea of saying, we evolved from rocks after a while. That is just delusional and without rational explanation. Even if billions of years pass, God created things after their kind and if a rock was a rock from the beginning it will still be a rock, the same with other species. – Makes sense, right?

Part 2

But something happened that sometimes we blame our ancestors for not being able to keep the one and simple commandment from God, Genesis 2:17 “but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, because on the day that you he eats, you will surely die.”

Commentary

And I’m sure there are still people who blame Adam and Eve for the transgression.

But well, certainly after Adam and Eve disobeyed, they died spiritually, where they no longer had this communion with their creator. And as for their physical bodies, they also died that day. If we were to apply what 2 Peter 3: 8 says “But do not overlook this fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day.” And if we consider that 1000 years is one day, then Adam died within the day, because he died at the age of 930 years. So God’s declaration came true.

Part 3

Since the fall, the human condition has become an experience that every human has to go through. That’s why as we get older, we get weaker, we are prone to diseases and from those diseases we end up dying. Even if the doctors say “They died of natural causes” Actually, there is no such thing. If we remember, the human condition cannot live forever, if an organ fails because it was mistreated or came to the end of its function, then that organ will cause a chain reaction throughout the structure of the body. Eventually causing the to die. But that is something that has to happen.

Part 4

In the beginning, Adam and Eve were in the garden, in paradise, in God’s rest. But because of the fall, a new chapter began, a chapter where they were going to have experiences that they had never had before, and I’m pretty sure they were afraid, just like any new experience we encounter. Now, they had no choice but to go through this timeline of an imperfect life, where they had to stay sanctified and remember that one day God was going to rescue them from this fallen path.

Illustration

Imagine walking down a road that is clean and perfect (Paradise), but eventually that road ends and a big, dark and dangerous valley appears, one would think and wonder, “do I have to go through here to get home?” Knowing that there is no right or left, there is no other option but to continue if one wants to reach a new home and rest.

But to get to the other side would take a long time because this valley stretches to the horizon. So in the meantime, one will have to go down to enter the valley and open the way to get to the other side, but while one travels in this valley, one has no choice but to work with what one has or is presented to one, and there will be moments where we encounter trouble, like vicious wild animal attacks. These animals are problems of life and if you leave the valley, you will reach higher ground where there is no longer a path but a pleasant ground where your new home is. However, many will give up, and die from the world’s attacks and never make it to the other side.

Final Part

Life is like that, and since the fallen condition entered we had no choice but to walk in this dark valley. However, now we have hope, because the promise that God made to Adam has come true. Christ Jesus was that redeemer who also walked in this world in a condition similar to us, but he had no sin and was able to overcome all the battles we face. And because he won such a battle, he survived after his death, he rose again on the third day and because he rose again that became our hope.

So if we think in the following way “Paradise + Suffering = Paradise”. Now, if you decide to submit to the pleasures of life where there is no suffering, then the equation would be like this: “Paradise + World Pleasure = Place of Destruction”.

And that’s when the scriptures come to reflect the part where it says in Matthew 7:13-14 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate, and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many are those who enter through it. For narrow is the gate, and narrow the road that leads to life, and few are the ones who find it.”

Final Comment

So, if we are believers and believe in the promises that our Lord Jesus Christ said, we will have to continue in this condition while we live and put our trust and gaze on him, because one day when we reach the end, we will end up once again in paradise.
